Oravel Stays Limited, globally known as OYO Rooms, is India's leading hospitality technology platform and one of the world's largest hotel chains by room count. It was founded in 2012 by Ritesh Agarwal at the age of 17 after he traveled across India staying at over 100 budget accommodations and identified systemic quality and trust gaps in the sector. The company was incorporated on February 21, 2012, in Gujarat and is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. OYO's asset-light model works by partnering with independent hotel owners, standardizing amenities (Wi-Fi, air conditioning, clean linen), and integrating them into its digital booking platform. As of 2024-25, OYO operates over 184,000 properties across 35+ countries, including India, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States. OYO achieved its first-ever net profit of ₹229 crore in FY 2024-25 — a historic milestone after years of aggressive expansion and restructuring. In December 2024, OYO completed the acquisition of G6 Hospitality (parent company of Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands) from Blackstone for USD 525 million, dramatically expanding its US presence. In Europe, OYO Vacation Homes manages 77,000+ properties in 20+ countries under brands like Belvilla and DanCenter. Total funding raised stands at approximately USD 3.47 billion across 21 rounds from 79 investors including SoftBank Vision Fund, Lightspeed, and Airbnb. The company is preparing for a future IPO (Oravel Stays) once financial performance targets are consistently met.
